About the role

This position is contingent upon contract award.

The Senior Data Engineer will lead the design, development, and deployment of advanced data engineering solutions supporting the Army Vantage program within the Army PEO EIS organization. This role requires technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate across functional and technical teams to meet the Army's enterprise data management goals.

Data Engineering Leadership: Lead a team in the full lifecycle of data engineering activities, including requirements definition, architecture, design, implementation, testing, and operational support. Provide technical direction for developing data products and ensuring alignment with program goals and objectives.

Data Integration and Transformation: Define and develop techniques to integrate, consolidate, and structure data for analytical use while ensuring data security and governance. Oversee the migration of data from legacy systems to modern, enterprise level solutions. Inform on data aggregation techniques and associated security implications.

Strategic Decision Support: Prepare strategic and tactical recommendations for senior leadership, offering data driven insights and rationale for decision making. Assess data architecture, design, and implementation impacts associated with new or changing requirements. Collaboration and

Stakeholder Engagement: Interface with functional data experts to understand and replicate authoritative business logic and data transformations. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment of data engineering practices with program and organizational goals.

Technical Expertise: Develop data architecture and design products using tools such as R, Oracle, or other data manipulation products. Leverage structured and unstructured data with advanced ingestion practices to enable analytics workflows.
Implement and manage cloud-based data and database technologies to support scalability and operational efficiency.

Compliance and Standards: Ensure adherence to Department of Defense (DoD) data standards, policies, and directives, with a focus on data protection for sensitive information, including Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Protected Health Information (PHI).

Education and Requirements:

SME Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field
  • 15+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 5 years in the Army logistics domain.
  • AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty.

Senior Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 8+ Years of experience in data management, including ETL processes.
  • AWS Certified Data Analytics Specialty (or equivalent cloud-based analytics certification) and/or
  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) by DAMA International.

Journeyman Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Science, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in data management, including ETL processes.
  • CompTIA Data+

Current and active Secret security clearance

Location flexible with preference to Ft. Eustis or Fort Belvoir
