What we are looking for:

We are seeking a Data Engineer to support our digital analytics initiatives within the water industry. This role involves designing, developing, and optimizing data pipelines, integrating structured and unstructured data sources, and ensuring high-quality data for AI/ML applications. As a Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting advanced analytics, risk modeling, and decision-making tools that drive strategic insights for water utilities. This is a part-time, as needed position working onsite at our client’s location, with no remote work options available.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in: 

• Data Pipeline Development: Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and transforming large volumes of water infrastructure data
• Data Integration: Aggregate and integrate data from diverse sources, including GIS, SCADA, LIMS, asset management systems, and external datasets
• Data Quality & Governance: Implement data validation, cleansing, and standardization processes to ensure high-quality, reliable datasets for analytics and reporting
• Database Management: Develop and optimize data storage solutions, including relational (SQL) and NoSQL databases, data lakes, and cloud-based warehouses
• Collaboration & Support: Work closely with data scientists, AI/ML engineers, and business stakeholders to provide clean, structured data for predictive modeling and decision support
• Automation & Optimization: Leverage scripting and automation tools to streamline workflows and enhance data processing efficiency
• Security & Compliance: Ensure data security, privacy, and compliance with industry regulations and best practices

What you’ll bring to the team:

• PhD in Water Economics, Agriculture, or Data Engineering
• At least 15 years of experience in data engineering, ETL development, or database management
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, Oracle, Power Automate, PowerApps and cloud-based data solutions (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Experience with data pipeline orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Prefect, or similar)
• Knowledge of GIS data formats and geospatial processing (preferred)
• Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and big data processing frameworks
• Familiarity with AI/ML data requirements and experience working in an analytics-driven environment is a plus

Salary range: $44.00-$66.00 based on experience
