Job Description

Opportunity

The Manager, Data Strategy and Insights (DSI), Data Engineer is a hands-on individual contributor role at Vestcom, an Avery Dennison company. This role is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the systems, infrastructure, and pipelines that support the DSI group's data needs. The DSI group’s mandate is to support the various Sales teams, dedicated to CPG and Retailer accounts, with different types of Analytics and Data Science solutions, that help further Vestcom’s business. The DSI group performs data mining pre-campaign to discover opportunities for clients to identify demand in the market. It leverages historical data in conjunction with client objectives to prescribe more intelligent, iROAS accretive campaigns, and also owns the measurement process (T v/s C) from setup to client delivery to ensure we have a statistically valid measurable event with descriptive, contextual explanations. Recommendations for optimization opportunities are made for future events based on historical outcomes, best practices, and trending market conditions. To support this, the Data Engineer would be expected to design and implement data pipelines to collect, process, and store data from various sources, such as sales transactions, customer demographics, and market trends. The Data Engineer would also work closely with data scientists, analysts, and sales supporting colleagues of the DSI group to ensure that data is accurate, reliable, and accessible for analysis and decision making.

►   Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Design and implement data pipelines to collect, process, and store data from various sources
  • Build and maintain data storage and infrastructure, such as databases and data warehouses
  • Ensure data accuracy, reliability, and accessibility for analysis and decision making
  • Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to support their data needs
  • Develop and maintain documentation for data pipelines and systems
  • Continuously monitor and optimize data pipelines and systems for efficiency and scalability
  • Work with 3rd party partners and retailers to ensure data is available for analytics
  • Partner with engineering and IT to continuously improve automation and UIs helping to build our Vestcom Intelligence Platform
  • Assist with developing new insights and securing new data to deliver on those insights based on client and market demands; and develop SLAs and requirements to qualify for these insights
  • Support the creation and evolution of our Strategy & Insights Playbook as a reference guide for sales and other internal teams, documenting all processes, definitions, metrics, outputs, and methodologies

Qualifications

►   Key Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or a related STEM field is required; MS/MEng preferred while shortlisting but not essential
  • Hands-on experience with data engineering, data warehousing, and SQL, as well as programming experience with languages such as Python, Java, and/or Scala
  • Ability to identify the right type database for a given problem, and being hands on for setting it up is expected 
  • Familiarity with big data technologies such as Spark and Hadoop is also highly desirable
  • Candidates with prior experience and/or certification in Databricks are likely to be a great fit for this role
  • Experience deploying and running Data Visualization servers like Shiny for R, Dash/Plotly for Python is highly valued
