Job Summary

Data Centers are considered Critical Facilities. This means that we support hospitals, laboratories, and public safety centers. As a Data Center Technician you will run fiber optic, copper and coax cable, perform cable terminations, install tray systems, build cages, and rack and stack servers.

Responsibilities

  • Supports fulfillment of projects that follow standard operating procedures; if projects deviate, then works under supervision

  • Supports physical audits and reporting

  • Delivers a high level of service while meeting time expectations on new deployments and existing alterations 

  • Supports customers on-site through access control and escorting services

  • Reviews work requests in the queue, responds to semi-routine work orders, and maintains detailed written records of all work

  • Calls out and expedites orders to appropriate teams upon standard operating procedures; supervision is needed on raising non-standard procedures

  • Involved in raising and expediting higher-level orders upon supervision

  • Ensure that a team is safe for all team members to raise any issues. 

  • Supports the operations and security personnel team for breaks or other activities when vital

  • Supports standard operating procedural tasks and provides backup assistance to team members and new hires

  • Responsibilities in queue management/reporting include reviewing work requests in the queue and working on standard requests, ensuring reporting is complete and accurate. Actively provides input and maintains detailed written records of all work activity

  • Installation responsibilities include handling standard rack and stack customer equipment tickets, reading standard installation spreadsheet plans and supporting implementing installations accordingly, and performing quality checks on cross-connects and on-site support tickets

  • Cross Connect work requires a general understanding of operating procedures for installs, terminations, modifications, and testing. Installing and testing cross-connect switched and multiplexed circuits

  • Expect testing of layer 1, 2 and 3 cross-connect certification testing, supporting the fix of switched and multiplexed circuits. Ability to escalate more circuits and supports as needed. Working with customers to solve issues and use experience gained to recommend solutions

Qualifications  

  • 1+ years of cabling, fiber optics, and rack and stack experience

  • High School Diploma  or equivalent

  • A natural curiosity and strong troubleshooting skills

  • Experience working in a critical facility a plus 

  • You can lift up to 50 lbs. and are agile in manual dexterity (climb, stoop, et.) with or without an accommodation

  • 24/7 Operation - working night shift 6 months out of a year is required
