Join Vanguard’s Corporate Service Data Office team to serve as an AWS database and storage technology subject matter expert who plays an integral role supporting investment technology durable product teams in building great products by enabling them to select, design, build and run the appropriate fit for use AWS database and storage technologies for their products.
Vanguard’s Corporate Service Data Office team is seeking to add a distinguished Product Architect who is an experienced and motivated data technologist that possesses a unique balance of data technical depth, strong interpersonal skills, and risk business acumen to encourage and equip investment durable product teams to develop lasting designs for their products and applications.
Responsibilities:
- Think strategically about business, product, and technical opportunities in an enterprise environment and play a critical role developing innovative data solutions to complex business and technology problems.
- Work regularly with several investment technology product architects and investment technology technical leads to recommend and design the data components for their micro-service solutions, based on the business capabilities in the bounded context, data access patterns for those capabilities, and applicable non-functional requirements.
- Partner daily with several investment durable product teams to: Direct teams to build data solutions that leverage certified trusted business data sources; Equip them to select the appropriate AWS database and storage technologies, and design data solutions aligned to the pillars in the AWS well architected framework; Drive data design discussions to make and document the rationale behind these data design decisions that sufficiently consider data access patterns, functional requirements, and non-functional requirements, trade-offs, and associated risk mitigation; Recommend data technology configurations and data structure designs for their AWS databases and storage by analyzing their data access patterns to optimize read and write performance; Support them to detect, diagnose, and remediate performance issues with cloud databases and storage.
- Work regularly with Vanguard’s centralized database as a service team and centralized database operations team on behalf of several investment technology durable product teams to advocate for the latest data technologies, features, and functions to ensure the success of teams’ product roadmap initiatives.
- Leverage your AWS database and storage subject matter expertise to develop prescriptive guidance, best practices, templates, and exemplars around field of use, patterns, and anti-patterns that serve as the guidelines and guardrails for the investment technology sub-division.
- Join in ad hoc special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional Certification preferred
- 10+ years’ experience in data architecture
- Experience designing data solutions considering the functional requirements as well as the non-functional requirements such as availability, performance, scalability, consistency, and concurrency
- Experience designing and delivering the data components of solutions with the two or more of the following AWS database and storage types and products: relational (RDS, Aurora, Redshift), key value (DynamoDB), document (DocumentDB), durable caching (MemoryDB), ledger (QLDB) or graph (Neptune), S3
- Proficiency in AWS services, Kinesis firehouse, Cloud Formation, S3, Lambda, Step Functions, IAM, KMS, Athena, Glue, DPX, Data Sync, Event Bridge, EC2, SQS, SNS, Lake Formation, Cloud Watch, Dremio
- Programming experience with advanced Python, SQL, PySpark
- Experience with reading data from APIs, Cloudwatch logs, files, third party data sources
- Experience with DPX Data Products
- Experience designing and developing a variety of cloud analytics solutions.
- Experience with AWS analytics services
- Experience socializing and governing data components of solutions according to the AWS Well-Architected Framework
- Experience in sizing, performance tuning, cost optimization and of AWS database and storage resources
