Agent 365 is Microsoft’s unified control plane for AI agents—providing a comprehensive platform for agent registry, lifecycle management, access governance, observability, interoperability, and security. The Agent 365 Tools Team builds the tooling, infrastructure, and evaluation systems that empower agents to perform reliably at scale. 

 

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Agent 365 - Tools to design and build highscale, resilient, and distributed systems that enable agents to use tools effectively. Responsibilities
  • Design and build scalable, resilient, and highperformance backend systems that power critical platform capabilities and enable reliable tool execution at scale. 
  • Develop and deliver secure, efficient, and maintainable service architectures and APIs, with a strong focus on scalability, fault tolerance, and operational excellence.   
  • Drive end‑to‑end execution of features and platform capabilities—from design through production—solving complex distributed systems challenges with ownership and urgency.   
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to deliver robust, end‑to‑end solutions, ensuring seamless integration across services and platform components.   
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and reliability gaps, and lead improvements in system architecture, observability, and service efficiency.   
  • Foster a strong engineering culture by mentoring peers, sharing expertise in systems design and backend best practices, and contributing to team growth and technical excellence.  


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience as a software engineer designing, implementing, and shipping cloud services or software products.  
 Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
 Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 pe
