The Boeing Safety, Security, and Airworthiness (SS&A) organization is looking for a Senior Airplane Safety Engineer to support the 777X airplane program onsite in Everett, WA. This is a high-visibility role with direct responsibility for supporting airplane safety, airworthiness, and regulatory certification activities in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.

As an Airplane Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for working cross functionally to ensure airplane level safety analysis are appropriately conducted. Understanding the complex integration of airplane systems, human factors, and airplane integration into the operational environment is required in this role.  The Airplane Safety deliverables directly feed airplane compliance and require an extreme attention to detail as well as a healthy engineering curiosity

Primary responsibilities:

  • Oversees system research and analysis to identify potential or investigate reported flight anomalies, risks, and safety concerns and quantifies impact.
  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to execute airplane level safety analyses
  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces
  • Leads identifying safety and mission assurance issue systemic root causes and recommends corrective actions using industry best practices.
  • Leads collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety, mission success, and airworthiness requirements; incorporates into designs, operations, and procedures.
  • Leads, influences or reviews tests, analyses, inspections, audits, and simulations to verify system meets defined safety and mission assurance requirements.
  • Leads creation of aerospace safety and mission assurance tools and processes.
  • Leads documentation of complex safety analysis, hazard mitigation, validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards.
  • Develops safety plan strategies and coordinates safety and corrective action plans with programs.
  • Presents hazard mitigations, risk controls, and safety approaches to customers and regulatory authorities

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years of experience in airplane systems design, analysis, or systems integration (e.g. flight controls, hydraulics, avionics, fuels, etc.) and/or systems integration.
  • Experience leading cross functional teams
  • Able and willing to take ownership of work activities to ensure they are completed accurately and efficiently

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

  • 5+ years of experience performing systems safety analysis and/or studies
  • 5+ years of experience with commercial airplane certification and safety requirements and procedures
  • 5+ years of experience working with safety analyses such as Risk Assessments, Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Fault-tree Analysis (FTA), etc.
  • Dispatch license, Pilots license, Instrument rating, or other Aviation certifications
  • Experience solving complex, ambiguous engineering problems within an aerospace design environment 
  • Experience working in a lead role responsible for planning, organizing, and leading personnel to solve complex technical problems
  • Experience working with FAR Part 25.1309, and industry practices like ARP 4761 &
