The Medical ICU (MICU) at Carolinas Medical Center is a 29-bed unit that cares for a diverse, high-acuity patient population, including those with ARDS, septic shock, liver failure, multi-organ failure, respiratory failure, gastrointestinal bleeds, complex oncology needs, renal failure, sickle cell crises, diabetic ketoacidosis, and post cardiac arrest care. Our team is actively involved in advanced critical care practice, including assisting with intubations and bedside procedures, titrating multiple vasoactive drips, providing comfort-focused care, coordinating off-unit procedures, and managing life support therapies such as ECMO.
