Position summary: The Director of Institutional Research & Academic Analytics provides leadership for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of institutional data in support of strategic planning, accreditation, compliance, and decision-making. Reporting to the Provost and working closely with the Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Director oversees institutional research operations, ensures accurate and timely reporting to state and federal agencies (including IPEDS), designs and deploys recurring surveys and drives data-informed initiatives that advance MICA’s strategic planning, academic vision, and student success goals.
Essential position responsibilities:
Serve as MICA’s official IPEDS Keyholder and manage all required federal reporting.
Coordinate state and federal compliance submissions (e.g., MHEC, MSCHE, U.S. Department of Education).
Develop and oversee internal reporting schedules to support leadership, trustees, and academic units. Analytics & Strategic Support.
Lead portfolio analysis of academic programs and cost of education reviews to evaluate enrollment health, financial sustainability, and alignment with workforce demand.
Develop dashboards, descriptive reporting, and analytics to inform strategic and academic program planning, and initiatives, accreditation standards criteria evidence and institutional effectiveness.
Partner with leadership to assess emerging trends in the creative economy and art/design higher education.
Oversee and conduct surveys, or data collection, analysis and reporting.
Work closely with Provost team, deans, program chairs, Enrollment Management, Finance, and Student Success offices to ensure institutional data informs decisions at all levels.
Support accreditation self-studies, strategic plan tracking, and board reporting with high-quality data and analysis.
Communicate complex data clearly to varied audiences including faculty, cabinet, and trustees.
Participate in data governance and stewardship activities with analysts, technical staff, and report writers.
Oversee IR operations, budget, and vendor relationships for analytic and reporting platforms.

Implement and lead best practices in data management, visualization, and institutional effectiveness across the college.
Explore and integrate advanced tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, R, Python, predictive analytics) to increase analytic capacity.
Drive innovation in how institutional data informs equity, access, and academic excellence.
Lead the working group for the MSCHE Accreditation Review on requirements of affiliation and compliance – and manage and build the Evidence Inventory.
Perform other related duties as assigned; MICA may add, change, or remove essential and other duties at any time.

Strong skills in data visualization, statistical modeling, and business intelligence tools.
Strong understanding of higher education reporting requirements and accreditation processes.
Leadership experience managing teams and cross-unit projects.
Ability to effectively translate and communicate interpersonally, orally and in writing, findings and reports broadly.
Knowledge of strategic planning and institutional effectiveness frameworks, particularly in higher education.
Knowledge of regional accreditation standards and processes.
Ability to research related information and regulations, prepare reports and documents, and attend to details with a high level of accuracy.
Ability to effectively communicate interpersonally, orally, and in writing.
Knowledge of assessment integration for institutional planning and program review cycles.
Skill in the use of personal computers and general office software, including database programs and advance
