A Day in the Life of a Civil Engineer

You are at the forefront of brainstorming creative solutions for challenging projects. You support an interdisciplinary team to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconstructions and streetscapes in urban settings to signature trail projects in suburban and rural areas that highlight and enhance the natural environment. You use programs such as AutoCAD in order to fulfill production work on your projects. You will share your knowledge with staff and clients, to develop feasibility studies, concept plans, and construction documents, as well mentor your colleagues to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality.

Qualifications of a Civil Engineer:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil engineering
  • 4+ years of experience in a related field
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) Certification required
  • Preference given to individuals with a PE and 5+ years of experience in a related field
  • A broad knowledge base in civil engineering with a transportation focus and specific knowledge of horizontal and vertical roadway geometric design (MUTCD and AASHTO)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Detailed design experience for intersection and corridor wide improvements, including, but not limited to, meeting minimum ADA and drainage requirements
  • Experience developing construction documents and cost estimates
  • Experience working on engineering projects for MassDOT or BTD is a plus
  • Exposure to construction management is a plus
  • Interest in multimodal and active transportation design is preferred

Work Schedule for a Civil Engineer:

This full-time position typically works a flexible full-time schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home. Our Northeast regional office is located in downtown Boston within a short walk to all of the major rapid
