Software Accounting - Manager

We are seeking a highly motivated, talented, and collaborative professional to join the Capital One Software Accounting team, within Central Accounting, as an Accounting Manager. The ideal candidate is passionate about bringing the future of Finance to life for our accounting associates and business partners.

As an Accounting Manager, you will be in charge of accurate and timely Software related transactions, process automations, analytics, and driving efficiencies within the Controllers Group. You will be a self-starter responsible for managing the team's multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast paced, time sensitive environment. The Controllers Group supports the financial implementation of new products, services, and systems with countless opportunities for knowledge growth. You will leverage your Finance and Accounting background and apply your strategic and analytical skills to address various challenges. You will do it all in a collaborative environment that values your insights, encourages you to take on new responsibilities, promotes continuous learning, and rewards innovation. We leverage technology to drive efficiencies in day to day processes. We proactively communicate with our partners and leadership, and help shape priorities by analyzing data, gathering metrics, identifying pain points, and rationalizing business processes. This position will also be responsible for building trusted relationships with leadership and key stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of strategic company initiatives.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and supervise the accurate and timely completion of monthly, quarterly, annual accounting processes (journal entries, reconciliations, period over period balance change analyses, reporting deliverables, etc.)

  • Manage team’s processes to maintain a properly controlled, well-managed accounting environment

  • Review and approve the supporting documentation to substantiate information included in deliverables

  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting policies and procedures

  • Provide support for audit, risk, and compliance groups when necessary

  • Lead and assist in the development, testing and implementation of project requirements,  facilitate prioritization of most critical initiatives through completion and stabilization

  • Present results, findings, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders

  • Participate in key corporate projects such as system upgrades, process enhancements, integrations, and ad hoc requests as they arise

  • Collaborate across the organization, build and maintain high trust relationships with business partner teams

  • Define requirements, validate content, and solve business problems by frequently using automation tools to drive efficiencies

  • Partner with the Tech Support and Accounting Systems teams to implement/update automations 

  • Provide accounting subject matter expertise on project implementation efforts and to develop new automations of existing manual processes

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or military experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in accounting, or finance, or audit, or a combination

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance 

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA)

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) eligible

  • 7+ years of Accounting experience in banking or finance industry (Monthly Close process, Account Reconciliations, Cash Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Revenue Recognition, or a combination)

  • 5+ years of experience leading others and working cross functionally with technology and/or operations teams

  • 3+ years of project management experience

  • 2+ years of experience in data analytics, data visualization (Tableau, Python, SQL, Google Sheets)

  • Experience in automating manual processes

  • Strong analytical, results focus and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities in a fast pace environment
