Description
The Holcombe Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering is seeking applicants for the position of Research Assistant Professor, located in the Energy Innovation Center (EIC) at the CURI campus in North Charleston, SC. This position includes designing, developing, and implementing advanced control systems for power converters across unit-level and system-level architectures; leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques to enhance the performance, efficiency, and scalability of converter control systems used in applications such as renewable energy systems, smart grids, electric vehicles, and industrial automation. The Research Assistant Professor will work closely with faculty, students, visiting scientists and industry partners engaged with Clemson's MV test facility. Job Duties: The Research Assistant Professor will play a pivotal role in advancing research with responsibilities including, but not limited to: • Design, develop, and implement advanced control systems under uncertainty. This role involves leveraging AI and ML techniques to boost the performance, efficiency, and scalability of control systems in applications like renewable energy, smart grids, microgrids, electric vehicles, and industrial automation. 50% • Stay current with the latest trends in AI, ML, and apply emerging techniques to improve control systems for applications relevant to energy systems. Seek competitive grant funding to utilize the capabilities of the CURI campus and actively pursue publications in peer-reviewed journals. 30% • Provide oversight, guidance and mentoring to student interns and/or graduate students. Ensure industry confidentiality, security of equipment and data. Build strong relationships with industry to further research and educational collaboration. Ensure all federal and state safety and environmental regulations and guidelines are followed at all times. 20%
Qualifications
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
