Description
Purpose: Provide Instruction in ASL for interns who are Deaf or hard of hearing within the Innovation program. The courses could be but not limited to career development, soft skills, foundations in technology, DART, literacy, certification classes. Courses may vary as the program develops.
Responsibilities:
- Shares relevant information about the DHH student’s classroom performance and/or communication needs with appropriate members of the Innovation or eMerge leadership team in a professional and objective manner
- Establishes and maintains professional working relationships with eMerge colleagues, Innovation colleagues and MTC staff/clients and interns
- Instruction of Microsoft Suite, Fundamentals of Computer Usage, operational Windows systems, Educational software, Soft Skills training, Career Readiness, literacy etc.
- Establishes, in conjunction with the appropriate stakeholders, a physical setting (lighting, noise level, distance, line of sight) that promotes effective interaction and communication
- Maintains a professional and functional classroom, perform preventive maintenance including routine cleaning of computers in classroom
- Observes and evaluates students’ involvement to determine learning progress
- Create a new curriculum to match the need of each cohort of interns, if needed
- Provides feedback to students to promote student success and improvement
- Performs other related duties as assigned by Manager/designee
- Complies with all MTC policies and procedures including but not limited to safety and emergency procedures
- Delivers class instruction to meet course outcomes and objectives
- Be accountable to meet the expectations of all stakeholders and students/interns
- Encourage the independence of the individuals served by promotion self- advocacy
- Attend necessary meetings to discuss the Innovation program and the interns involved.
- Maintain an environment of respect and inclusivity where all people can do their best work.
- Maintains a collaborative work environment and works well with others.
- All other duties as required of this position and assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree required with a minimum of two years of instructional experience with DHH community.
- Ability to teach concepts in sign language (ASL) as demonstrated through an interview with designated Innovation staff and documented experience as an instructor with DHH community.
- Working knowledge of computer technology with ability to instruct basic computer skills.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, a plus.
- Fluency in ASL and written English.

Knowledge: Fluency in American Sign Language and Deaf culture. Computer skills to include intermediate knowledge in MS Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Must pass Level 2 background screening, local law enforcement and drug screening. Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License.
