Job Description

The Technical Documentation Specialist will be responsible for establishing robust document maintenance processes; maintaining all current Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) and Designated Engineering Representative (DER) documentation; managing the proper sequence of steps required for internal and external approvals.

 

  • Create and maintain an organized repository of documentation that fulfills FAA regulatory requirements
  • Create ISO, FAA, and AS9100 compliant procedures for the efficient processing of documents from their creation through approval
  • Track and report status of each document through its life cycle – from the onset of draft to submission to the FAA and any subsequent approvals or revisions
  • Ownership of document quality including format, use of standard language, grammar, legibility for a technical (but not expert) audience
  • Assist with the completion and update of documents that utilize previously approved reports as templates
  • Update part numbers/stage number/engine type for the current project
  • Ensure timely submission of all documents to the proper FAA office
  • Collaborate with multiple internal sites/locations and departments such as Quality, Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing and IT securing compliance with FAA requirements
  • Navigate through various systems and tools to understand the process and hold stakeholders accountable
  • Oversee and manage various vendors ensuring proper documentation, purchasing, analysis and specifications are correct for tooling, parts and materials
  • Identify opportunities for automation of processes
  • Identify opportunities for improvement that ultimately reduce lead time and streamline review and approval processes
  • Maintain current status of multiple document streams
  • Develop monthly reports for senior leadership demonstrating current document status

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience and education is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in the Aerospace or Industrial gas turbine engine vanes/blades/casting discipline
  • Familiarity with aerodynamic, performance, and heat transfer disciplines
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of turbine airfoil manufacturing and best practices. Combustion experience would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of gas turbine airfoil manufacturing processes (blades, vanes, casting, machining) 
  • Familiarity with all aspects of airfoil manufacturing (casting, machining, etc.) 
  • Knowledge of FAA guidelines for PMA and RS-DER requirements and compliance testing
