Job Summary

The Executive Sous Chef plays a key role in supporting the Executive Chef in the daily management of kitchen operations while maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary environment for all staff. This position oversees and participates in the preparation of meals in accordance with established corporate standards within a 700-bed acute care Kosher facility that includes catering and retail services.

Key Responsibilities

Partner with the Executive Chef to ensure adherence to sanitation standards, ServSafe guidelines, safety protocols, production requirements, and merchandising expectations
Lead, train, and motivate back-of-house team members to achieve operational goals and deliver consistent, high-quality service
Ensure food is prepared and presented with creativity, consistency, and cost efficiency
Support all aspects of kitchen operations, including menu planning, ordering, inventory control, and food production
Monitor and help manage food and labor costs while maintaining budget targets
Assist in the development and implementation of new culinary programs in collaboration with marketing and culinary teams
Provide day-to-day kitchen oversight, ensuring quality, minimizing waste, and managing high-volume production
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, Food Service Management, or related field, or an A.O.S. in Culinary Arts, or equivalent experience
3–5 years of progressive culinary experience, including high-volume production leadership
Demonstrated expertise across multiple kitchen stations and functions
Strong ability to think quickly and adapt in a fast-paced environment
Solid knowledge of food costing, ingredient identification, and quality standards
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
Food safety certification (ServSafe and/or HACCP preferred)
Knowledge of current culinary trends and a passion for innovative presentation preferred
Experience in a Kosher kitchen and familiarity with kosher cuisine strongly preferred
Knowledge of ethnic and regional cuisines a plus
