THE DEPARTMENT:
The Office of Academic Programs provides strategic, tactical and administrative leadership and oversight on matters related to undergraduate and graduate programs and curriculum, the General Education program, academic policies, assessment of student learning, academic quality and program integrity, program reviews, and specialized and institutional accreditation. The Office is responsible for the oversight, communication and enforcement of CSU policies, guidelines, and Presidential Directives related to Academic Programs. The Office of the President is responsible for all operational and strategic aspects of the University, including student recruitment, retention and graduation; academic policies and programs; state and non-state operating budgets; personnel policies and procedures; external outreach, collaboration and fundraising.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assessment, Program Review, and Accreditation
- Assessment and program review are key elements of academic effectiveness. This position leads the strategic operations of assessment and program review, and alignment with institutional effectiveness.
- Institutional Assessment: Promote understanding and support for institutional assessment initiatives and programs and a campus-wide scholarship of assessment.
- Lead the design, implementation, and assessment of university-level learning goals and general education learning outcomes.
- Produce reports and facilitate discussions of assessment findings and utilization of findings with key constituents.
- Maintain records of all institutional assessment activity, including changes made for improvement.
- Provide guidance and support for assessment of co-curricular and high-impact practice initiatives within Academic Affairs.
- Provide leadership and support for the design and administration of student surveys (e.g., senior exit surveys, NSSE).
- Program Assessment: Provide consulting support to academic departments and programs in all phases of their assessment efforts.
- Develop and implement approaches to improve program assessment activity, including utilization of the findings for improvement.
- Manage assessment mini-grant program and develop resources to support academic program assessment.
- Program Review: Foster the institutional commitment to academic excellence by overseeing and guiding the institutional process of systematic program reviews and improvements.
- Ensure an active, sustainable, and comprehensive plan of ongoing program reviews and yearly assessments by developing and implementing an integrative program review framework.
- Establish and maintain a systematic schedule of program reviews, coordinate those reviews, ensure timely submission, and review of the reports and monitor the implementation of program recommendations.
- Provide research and analytics support to faculty in conducting academic program reviews; Provide guidance and support to faculty in linking program review recommendations to evidence-based planning and decision-making at multiple levels (i.e., program, department, college, and University).
- Accreditation: Maintain current knowledge of accreditation requirements, and of developments and trends in higher education, especially those related to assessment, program review, and strategic planning.
- Provide consulting support to academic department and programs in their accreditation efforts.
- Serve on WSCUC review teams and committees as appropriate.
Strategic Planning
- The strategic plan is aligned with and reflective of the university’s mission, vision, and values. This position leads and coordinates a comprehensive systematic approach to advance and monitor the plan’s progress, priorities, and evaluation, and ensure its continual visibility to facilitate campus support and alignment.
- Evaluation of the Strategic Plan’s Progress: Work with Cabinet and divisional leadership teams to lead the design and implementation of evaluation metrics and systems for monitoring progress and feedback for continuous improvement.
