United Way Miami, Inc. is hiring an Early Childhood Mentor Teacher to join our team. As Early Childhood Mentor Teacher is responsible for planning and coordinating the implementation of the center’s education program for children ages 0-3 or 3-5, by designing delivery and coordinating program development, facilitating of interdisciplinary collaboration, and providing administrative support.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Faculty Interaction/Supervision:
- Provides reflective supervision to support develop and evaluate their performance through a process of inquiry that encourages their understanding and articulation of the rationale for their practices.
- In collaboration with the family engagement staff develop plans for classrooms and families of children with special needs.
- Get to know the services provided to children and families with disabilities in the program to serve them better.
Major Responsibilities/Education Program Development
- Plans and coordinates the center’s education program for children 0-3 or 3-5 in conjunction with the Demonstration School Director.
- Monitors and ensures education plans and other required documentation for children are completed.
- Regularly completes and documents classroom observations as required.
- The Master Teacher spends one day of the week in the classroom, doing observation and coaching.
- Ensures teacher-child interactions and instruction is responsive, intentional, and developmentally appropriate to ensure children are provided socially supportive, organized, and instructional meaningful interactions to support their development (i.e., social-emotional, physical, cognitive and language) and learning (i.e., literacy, math, science, technology, social studies, and the arts);
- Schedules and protects time for regular collaboration among the teaching team to review data, and reflect on children’s progress and teaching practice.
- Coordinates study groups to give opportunities for teachers to unpack early learning and development standards, examine practice and together design innovative learning experiences.
- Implement with classroom teachers formal cycles or reflective content-based coaching.
- Use of child screening, assessment, and progress data to inform lesson planning, individualization, and the intensification of instruction in the areas of oral language, dual language, and literacy development and skills; social-emotional and self-regulation development and skills; numeracy and problem-solving skills.
Professional Development:
- Team Lesson Planning – Schedules and protects time for regular collaboration among the teaching team to review data, reflect on children’s progress and teaching practices, and plan for interaction, instruction, and family engagement.
- Reflective Practice Groups/Communities of Practice – Facilitates or coordinates reflective practice groups or communities of practice for teachers to engage in shared reflection, inquiry, and professional learning. Facilitates or coordinates collaborative “lesson study” opportunities for teachers
