Job Description

Are you a dynamic fundraising professional with a passion for philanthropy and relationship-building? Do you thrive in cultivating meaningful connections with donors and advancing higher education? If so, Indiana University Foundation (IUF) invites you to apply for the role of Director of Development, a key leadership position driving philanthropic growth for one of the nation’s leading public universities.

As the Director of Development supporting International Advancement across Indiana University’s many campuses, schools, and units, you will play a pivotal role in identifying, cultivating, and securing major gifts ($50,000+) from alumni, parents, and friends. Working closely with the university’s advancement leaders and reporting to the Vice President of Development, Bloomington, and Executive Director of International Advancement, you will build a fundraising portfolio of donors to support Indiana University’s mission and strategic priorities. You will work closely with donors and alumni with international ties. Critical to your success is intercultural competency and experience building major gift portfolios and developing personalized engagement strategies that foster long-term donor relationships.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Detailed knowledge of current fundraising trends and techniques.
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills and judgment suitable for exercising appropriate discretion and demeanor when dealing with prospects, donors, alumni, faculty, and staff.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills up to and including, but not limited to, writing gift agreements, executive summaries of fundraising concepts, and proposals for solicitation(s).
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple demands and/or complex and competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to use current computer technology, such as Windows, Excel, Word, etc.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in the handling of confidential information.
  • Experience related to all aspects of planning and successfully executing large fundraising campaigns including working with academic leaders and preparing complex gift proposals.
  • Possess an ability to work comfortably within an academic environment that possesses many competing interests, priorities and opinions.
  • An understanding of the importance of, and demonstrated success in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion among staff, donors and volunteers.
