This is a highly responsible position in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Plans, organizes and manages the Food Service Operation of a small facility within the Department of Juvenile Justice.
- Provides on the job training programs in the areas of sanitation, food preparation, storage, personal hygiene, meal service, use of recipes and the cycle menu.
- Maintains accurate records pertaining to the food service operations to include numbers of meals served, food costs, inventory, cycle menu, menu substitutions, etc.
- Attends department meetings, institutional meetings and trainings as required.
- Makes routine checks of all kitchen equipment. Applies and enforces departmental rules, regulations and policies.
- This position is deemed essential and has been designated for mandatory operations by the Appointing Authority; therefore, the incumbent is not eligible for Adverse Weather Leave.
- Required to successfully complete the Department of Juvenile Justice Training Academy; which entails two weeks on the job training, three weeks (Monday – Friday) at the academy training location (Louisville, Kentucky). Overnight lodging and travel is required for the ACT and provided by the department.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree with courses in food preparation, food management or a related area.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
Must have two years of experience in the operation and management of institutional, military or commercial food service operations.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:
NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
Experience in one of the above areas will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):
If employed in the Kentucky Department of Parks or the Kentucky Horse Park, must be twenty years and one day of age at time of appointment. If employed in the Kentucky Department of Parks or the Kentucky Horse Park, must obtain S.T.A.R. (Server Training in Alcohol Regulations) certification from the Kentucky Department
