Job Description

Western Digital’s High Performance Computing team is currently seeking a strong Principal, HPC DevOps Engineer to provide technical leadership and strategy to develop scalable HPC infrastructure and services. This team has the mission to help deliver well-architected, innovative cloud solutions that are secure, high-performing, resilient and efficient. In this role, you will utilize your strategic, technical, and operational experience to drive HPC cloud strategy, governance and architecture. You will take an active role in the evaluation, operations, development, automation, and release of new and existing cloud-related solutions for the ASIC and Flash development teams.

We are looking for a deep technical leader who can do hands-on development and architectural decision-making to set the right level of priorities for our teams to deliver substantial business value to WD. Specifically, we are looking for a hands-on architect, who is passionate about building scalable, performant, well designed compute and data platforms and core frameworks that enable ASIC development groups to easily run in the cloud without the need to know the underlying cloud infrastructure.

We need a leader who is dynamic, curious, and a 'learn it all' that can collaborate across multiple domains (development, support, SRE, etc.).

The ideal candidate should be strong in getting things done, communicate well, have a great deal of energy, and enjoy working as part of a global collaborative team.

Candidates for this position will need strong delivery and execution skills, to help projects at all phases overcome technical and organizational obstacles.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Design and develop using Infrastructure as Code such that it modular, service oriented and replicable across cloud providers and across regions with high consistency
  • Build Observability platforms that can validate and verify the solution at every step and effectively pinpoint the problem
  • Actively develop, evolve, and curate cloud principles, patterns, and offerings
  • Define and document best practices for delivering technologies on public cloud
  • Convert system requirements into Infrastructure as Code to codify system infrastructure
  • Perform cloud technology road-mapping & alignments with cloud teams and stakeholders
  • Serve as a mentor and help in the development of domain level architects in the HPCaaS cloud and DevOps organization
  • Perform architectural and design reviews of cloud systems as well as software systems use of cloud
  • Help coordinate multi-disciplinary architecture initiatives and participate in cross-organizational architecture leadership forums
  • Collaborate with security teams to design and implement policy controls

Qualifications

What we need to see:

  • 6+ years of experience in Linux enterprise service operations, SRE, or Systems Engineering
  • Strong experience with continuous delivery (CI/CD) and Infrastructure as Code
  • Strong background in orchestration and automation
  • Proficiency in architecting, designing, building Observability platform solutions
  • Proficiency with Python programming language
  • Extensive knowledge of Infrastructure-as-a-Service delivery models, and public cloud deployments in any of the 3 major platforms (AWS preferred)
  • Strong analysis, task management and time ma
