The Shift Team Leader (STL) is the frontline supervisory role for a Plasticizer asset operations crew (2-3 Outside Operators). This role has responsibility for safe operation of the chemical production process of the Plasticizer asset including continuous operation of the process from the control board to maintain the process within its design operating envelopes as well as supporting all activities taking place in the field during their shift. This role works a 12-hour rotating shift, including nights, weekends and holidays.  

Accountabilities of the job:

Accountability 1: Meet all SHE objectives and comply with all governmental laws and policies for a manufacturing site.

  • Responsible for the safety of the team above any other outcome, requiring and promoting compliance with INEOS 20 Safety Principles, Life Saving Rules and site policies/standards.
  • Responsible for stopping work and/or initiating safe shutdown of asset if the situation warrants.
  • Ensures all procedures and checklists are followed in all cases without exception. If there is an error or gap in those procedures or checklists, has the accountability to ensure that they are reviewed for quality and updated to reflect accurate content.
  • Responsible for reporting all incidents related to their asset that occur during their shift and following up to ensure root cause is determined and corrected.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all necessary operational and/or safety training is fully implemented and reinforced, that their employees have the knowledge to work safely in our facilities, and employees know they have the right and duty to stop work if they identify an unsafe condition, process, or practice.
  • Takes personal leadership role in daily activities, task planning, incident investigations, MOC process, PHAs, near miss reviews, audits and other activities and work performance as they relate to the INEOS’s key focus areas of Safety, Environmental, Quality, Reliability, and Cost of operation.
  • Responsible for initiating safety device bypass approval and managing the removal of the bypass in accordance with the procedure. 
  • Initiates return to service documentation process.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance calendar is complete and up-to-date.

Accountability 2: Development and Leadership of Operations Team

  • Coaches, counsels, and supports the Operators on shift.
  • Evaluates the performance of operators, issues oral and/or written praise or reprimands, and recommends disciplinary action is severe cases.
  • Conducts annual performance appraisals for each direct report.
  • Works with each Operator on their individual training needs, enforcing on time completion of all training, including VTAs and MOC acknowledgments.
    • Responsible for identifying and communicating specific training opportunities to Operations Supervisor/Training Coordinator for outside operators.
    • Responsible for identifying and training/cross training step ups for board.
  • Manage operations personnel through absentee reporting (sick leave, vacation, funeral, etc.), discipline, and payroll (verify and enter exception time) following guidelines in the company policy. 
    • Proactively reach out to other STLs, Training Coordinators and SSLs to get feedback on direct reports (performance, attendance, training, etc.)
  • Proactively identify and resolve Operations Team concerns including identifying and facilitating conflict resolution. 
  • Responsible for ensuring Outside Operators follow procedures, protocols, and policies. 
  • Responsible for ensuring operations personnel are meeting established guidelines for training and qualifications.
  • Responsible for ensuring Outside Operations time has been entered and approved prior to payroll processing.
  • Invests the time to know direct reports and properly delegates to develop the team through training, coaching, and job assignments.
  • Sharing and adapting best practices across shifts to provide a consistent experience for all team members, regardless of crew and/or unit.
  • Leads with optimism, confidence, and clarity to help team members feel engaged, value their role, and feel good about the company direction and strategy.
  • Functions as a member of the INEOS management team and support downward and challenge upward.
