Day (United States of America)South Shore Hospital, Southeastern Massachusetts's leading provider of emergency, acute, and outpatient care, is seeking a Financial Counselor to join our Patient Access team. Under the general direction of the Financial Counseling Supervisor, the successful candidate will screen and advocate for patients in the procurement of benefits through state public assistance programs, assisting in maintaining the financial integrity of South Shore Hospital. This position is 100% onsite at our Weymouth, MA location.Responsibilities
- Contact all self-pay/uninsured and under-insured patients in person or via phone/letter to screen for eligibility for Financial Assistance within time frame established
- Demonstrate working knowledge of all public assistance programs, screen patients for eligibility for these programs, and initiate applications
- Complete and pass the Mass Health Certified Application Counselor course to become certified, and complete the yearly renewal process
- Interpret commercial and federal insurance plan coverage for patient and families
- Act as a liaison between patients, Case Management, Patient Accounts Department, and Precertification
- Determination and collection of medical co-pays at time of service
- Procure and explain estimated pricing for outpatient hospital services
- Promote and support SSHOSP self-payment and payment processes

- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially
- Ability to prioritize work appropriately and to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner
- MS office suite
Qualifications
- HS diploma (Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred)
- 1+ years of patient registration or healthcare insurance claim/coverage experience
