Job Description
The Sr. Engineer I, Plant is responsible for supporting the overall operation of the mechanical systems associated with the Cambridge and Weston sites. Respond to utility and equipment related issues during site operations. Lead multi-disciplined problem-solving task teams. Create and maintain relationships with Cambridge and other sites to develop and promote best practices. Specify and implement modifications to improve operational performance and compliance. Manage infrastructure capital projects. Uphold, define, and police safety procedures and safe practices. Provides solutions to a wide range of difficult problems which are often unique. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practical, and consistent with global engineering objectives. Accountable for the development and implementation of global Cross-Site solutions to problems.
This position will require the person to be able to work on-site in Cambridge, MA.
What You’ll Do
The Sr. Engineer 1 will be responsible for responding to system related issues with the goal of maintaining compliant operations and minimizing impact to the facilities. He/she will charter and lead continuous improvement efforts and create and maintain relationships with other sites to develop and promote best practices. Uphold, define, and police safety procedures and safe practices.
- Requires scientific/technical knowledge in assigned area; may act as a technical resource within own workgroup/project team.
- Solves complex problems through collaboration with others, taking a new perspective on existing solutions.
- Conducts independent research, development, or support programs.
- Works under limited supervision; identify and independently develop approaches to solutions.
- Has complete knowledge of varied aspects or a single specialized aspect of a scientific/technical discipline and some knowledge of principles and concepts in other disciplines.
- Applies scientific/technical and functional knowledge, may act as a technical resource within own workgroup/project team.

- Define the necessary modifications and improvements for the facility
- Lifecycle Management
- Procure and define requirements of new equipment, modifications, and projects that affect the infrastructure utility systems
- Lead multi-disciplined problem solving task teams
- Create and maintain relationships with other sites to develop and promote best practice
- Specify and implement modifications to improve operational performance and compliance
- Serves as consultant and external spokesperson for the engineering department on significant matters relating to projects, enhancement upgrades, capabilities, and short and mid-range goals.
- Works closely with others across all onsite departments, providing general oversight and guidance.
- Influences senior management decisions through presentations.
- Manage small capital projects
- Uphold, define, and police safety procedures and safe practices
- Facility representative for Global Engineering projects
Who You Are
The ideal candidate is an experienced engineer with direct experience in a regulated industry. Additionally, the candidate has excellent communication/collaboration skills and can work across all levels of the organization.
Qualifications:
Required Skills
- BS in Mechanical / Chemical or other Engineering discipline and at least 4-6 years of relevant experience
- Direct experience supporting utility system within a regulated industry.
- Significant experience in project management with a focus on infrastructure systems
- Experience in equipment design, installation, and start up.
- Demonstrated ability to work in and lead cross-functional teams.
- Strong computer skills.
- Experience with any or all of the following unit operations or technologies:
- Electrical Systems
- Purified water
- Clean steam
- Compressed gas
- HVAC design and operation
- Environmental monitoring and chambers
- Knowledge of Project Management, DEP, MWRA, NFPA
