Position Specific Description
This is an on-site opportunity in our beautiful, Juno Beach, FL office with travel expectations.

We have operations across the U.S. and Canada, so we're keenly aware of the potential impacts that existing and future operations may have on wildlife and their habitat. Therefore, we have environmental policies and programs in place at both the corporate and local levels to avoid and minimize these impacts and to address any remaining impacts through appropriate mitigation measures. As a member of the NextEra Energy wildlife team, you will face different challenges every day, some of which will be extraordinarily complex. We ask our wildlife experts to work alongside multiple disciplines including engineers, developers, operators, permitting specialists, and policy professionals. Successful candidate will have:
- Sound statistical acumen, interpretation, and analytical ability
- Familiarity with wind energy and wildlife issues
- Familiarity with bat biology, including habitat use
- Familiarity with eagle biology, survey protocols, and guidance documents related to eagle take permitting
- Experience with listed bat regulations and guidance documents (such as the Indiana Bat Summer Survey Guidance)
- Detailed understanding of avian protection laws (Endangered Species Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act) and related wind energy guidance documents and policies
- Experience writing Bird and Bat Conservation Strategies
- Ability to maintain professional relationships with diverse groups including operation staff, developers, other industry representatives, NGO stakeholders, agency personnel, and consultants
- Proficient at interacting with public and local elected officials at open houses, local zoning meetings, or during other outreach events
- Experience reviewing consultant work related to wind energy wildlife issues
- Provides strategic advice regarding risk management of protected species and their habitat (avoidance, minimization, and mitigation)
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time; often on short notice
Job Overview
Employees in this job are responsible for providing expert environmental support for new and existing facilities including due diligence, permitting, regulatory compliance, regulatory interpretation and development, and interface with Federal, State, and Regional agencies.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Supports the company's compliance with environmental requirements
• Performs comprehensive environmental due diligence reviews
• Assists with facility compliance audits
• Conducts environmental licensing and permitting activities
• Supports environmental aspects of company operations, such as, compliance, reporting, monitoring, remediation, and environmental permitting functions
• Monitors and analyzes environmental policies and regulations that affect the company and its customers
• Provides the necessary support to staff to resolve environmental matters
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned
