Job Description Summary 

The Chief Deputy District Attorney (DDA) mentors, manages, and evaluates assigned staff to promote and maintain a vibrant, just, effective, and collaborative workforce of prosecutors and support staff serving Jefferson and Gilpin counties. Performs special assignments as directed by the District Attorney, Assistant District Attorney, or Senior Chief Deputy District Attorney(s) including but not limited to prosecution of cases of significant interest. 

 

Annual Salary: $154,000 to $215,000 USD Annually  

Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.  

  

  • Engages directly with assigned staff through regular meetings, professional communications, and direct supervision of in and out of court events of significance.   

  • Encourages professional growth of assigned attorney staff through participation in trials, appellate and motions practice, and consultation on significant case dispositions with assigned attorney staff. Structures assignments to maximize the learning experience for the assigned staff. Assists the professional development of assigned staff based on objective and supported observations.  

  • Ensures that assigned staff are well-versed in their statutory, constitutional, and ethical obligations, in applicable law and court procedures, and in evidence-based practices through referrals to relevant training, direct mentorship, and supervision.  

  • Covers court appearances for staff as needed. Performs all the functions of a Senior Deputy District Attorney on an as-needed basis.  

  • Administers and makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting subordinates, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, scheduling, granting leave, appraisals, and taking corrective action. Conducts performance evaluations and communicates short- and long-term goals and objectives. Submits personnel records and reports as required by the District Attorney. Assists and advises assigned staff as necessary, resolves problems as non-routine situations arise, and ensures adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards. Communicates changes in policy and procedures to direct reports and implements them as directed.  

  • Participates in policy discussions and development on an as-needed basis. Communicates with Senior Chief Deputy District Attorney(s), the Assistant District Attorney, and the District Attorney regarding personnel matters and issues of office-wide concern.  

  • May be assigned to any unit including but not limited to prosecution of juvenile offenders, prosecution of crimes committed against special victims, supervision of problem-solving courts, intake, appeals, Gilpin County, or County Court.  

  • Supports equity, inclusivity, and diversity in the office and uses evidence-based data to inform decisions.  

  • Other duties as assigned.
