Position Overview:
As a Utilities Mechanic I, you will perform skilled mechanical work in the installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of municipal wastewater equipment and infrastructure. You’ll use your knowledge of mechanical systems, basic electricity, and plumbing to:

Diagnose and correct issues with wastewater lift station equipment, force mains, wet wells, treatment plant equipment, and associated utilities systems.
Apply technical skills to ensure efficient operations and minimize downtime.
You’ll work under supervision while gaining valuable experience and independence in applying technical procedures of the trade.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership

Management

  • Effectively manages assignments and priorities to ensure the fulfillment of projects, tasks, and responsibilities

  • Follows suggested procedures to assure the highest standards of risk management, employee safety and risk avoidance

Technical

  • Operates

    • light to heavy duty trucks and equipment

    • mini excavator, backhoe, by-pass pumps, forklift, aerial lift, skid steer, knuckle-boom crane, and truck mounted crane

    • various types of hand and power tools

  • Performs corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance on lift stations, wastewater reclamation facility, and biosolids pelletizer components and equipment

  • Disassembles, installs, and performs mechanical repairs

  • Participates in the installation:

    • and repair of various size gravity and force main pipelines

    • of a wide variety of pipeline fittings (megalug, flanged, PVC, ductile iron) and pipeline repair components such as pipe restraints

  • Maintains air release valves by following standard operating procedure (SOP)

  • Demonstrates working knowledge and understanding of Wastewater Collection System maps: identify lift stations, force mains, valves, air releases
