Job Description

The Center for Applied Linguistics is located in Washington DC. This is a hybrid position, and the employee may choose to work in their preferred combination of in person at the office in a hoteling capacity, or remotely.

Candidates for this position are preferred to reside within the DC Metro area (DC/Maryland/Virginia). Staff may work from locations outside of Washington DC, Maryland, or Virginia if approved for telework. However, this position is not open to candidates residing in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, California, or the U.S. Territories.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents admitted to the U.S. for permanent residence to comply with the eligibility requirements of one of our grants.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Research Assistant provides research and development support in the Dual Language and Multilingual Education (DLME) division for project-specific tasks and activities and is responsible for carrying out project activities as assigned, contributing to the completion of project tasks and deliverables.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (as commensurate with half-time position)

  • Assist with program evaluation projects related to the qualitative collection of data and assistance with analyzing and summarizing the data.
  • Assist with professional development projects, including formatting and editing documents and providing support in synchronously delivered, remote workshops.
  • Assist with the development of digital badges for DLME institutes.
  • Draft DLME contracts following a template.
  • Create new project forms, POs for consultants, and other administrative tasks within the division.
  • Create meeting agendas and take and disseminate meeting notes.
  • Communicate with consultants and external colleagues, as requested.
  • Coordinate project tasks and timelines.
  • Assist with other administrative duties as needed.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, in a related field.
  • Experience working in bilingual education and/or K-12 language teaching.
  • Experience or formal coursework in second language acquisition and second-language instruction methodology.
  • Experience assisting with the collection and analysis of qualitative data (for example, observing classroom instructional practices using an observation protocol, and summarizing the results).

Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent interpersonal, editing, oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish and/or a language other than English.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Forms, and Slides).
  • Experience with using social media.
  • Ability to work flexibly and cooperatively in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Acute attention to detail and ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
