Associate Director, Bioinformatics

POSITION SUMMARY:
Natera is currently seeking an Associate Director to join our Bioinformatics Research Team with a focus on technology/algorithm development in minimal residual disease (MRD) detection. Natera’s mission is to change the management of disease worldwide by using information gained from a simple blood draw to detect disease early and proactively inform treatment. The individual will lead a team of Bioinformatics Scientists and will be responsible for the planning and execution of research projects related to MRD assay research using a variety of technologies. The ideal candidate should be an experienced team leader and have a strong background in algorithm development, next-generation sequencing, whole exome/genome sequencing, sequencing data processing, liquid biopsies and/or machine learning.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Envision, plan, and execute research strategies in collaboration with other cross-functional stakeholders
- Drive the development of innovative algorithms related to MRD assessment and technology development
- Lead a team of Bioinformatics Scientists and support their professional growth
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and scientific excellence
- Work closely with molecular biologists and clinical scientists to solve challenging problems
- Contribute to experimental design and ensure data integrity and quality control
- Communicate findings clearly across all levels and functions of the company and act as a subject matter expert
- Present results at conferences and publish in top-tier journals
QUALIFICATIONS:
- PhD or Masters in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field
- Minimum of 6-8 years of working in the bioinformatics field and extensive managerial and cross-functional experience
- Track-record of leading and developing state-of-the-art and highly impactful NGS based assay development, specifically for tissue and plasma
- Deep understanding of analyzing tissue and plasma based NGS data
- Experience in Python, R
- Experience using Linux command-line tools and writing shell scripts
- Ability to visualize findings and summarize results in oral and written form for both technical and non-technical audiences
- High scientific rigor and eager to teach and learn about new computational methods and biology
