Department Overview

The System/Application Analyst, Senior serves as the technological support in the Student Financial Aid department for the systems required to administer more than $100 million annually in OHSU student financial aid programs. The System/Application Analyst, Senior is responsible for implementing all systems necessary to maintain compliance with federal and state student financial aid regulations and ensuring that all student financial aid systems are operating properly within the university and the larger federal systems architecture, including compliance with all internal and external student financial aid reporting. The System/Application Analyst, Senior is responsible for implementing and maintaining the Ellucian Banner Student Financial Aid system, interfaces with the U.S. Department of Education¿s financial aid systems and ensures that all technological issues are resolved, and new functionality is implemented and operating properly.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Administers full functionality for the student financial aid systems used to administer more than $100 million annually in student financial aid. Maintains advanced knowledge and expertise of the Ellucian Banner Student Financial Aid system. Makes sure the Ellucian Banner Student Financial Aid system, and the interfaces with the U.S. Department of Education’s systems, all function properly. Troubleshoots production critical system errors to ensure financial aid operations can continue and data is not corrupted. Utilizes advanced database skills in conjunction with expertise in student financial aid systems to minimize errors and ensure accurate delivery of financial aid funds and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Develops and maintains rule tables within the Ellucian Banner Student Financial Aid system to control financial aid processes. Creates and maintains algorithmic rules for financial aid packaging and budgeting as part of the annual new year set up process. Audits, monitors, verifies and corrects student data within systems as needed. Develops and implements standards on data and notifies management if standards are not maintained. Identifies and communicates users’ information system requirements and tests the resolution of system processing problems. Serves as liaison between system users and the Information Technology Group (ITG). Sends, receives and troubleshoots data from U.S. Department of Education financial aid systems like COD, NSLDS, FPP, and SAIG Mailbox.
  • Deep understanding of the Ellucian Banner Financial Aid system to test upgrades, understand dependencies, and ensure the system is functioning as expected. Analyzes the Ellucian Banner Student Financial Aid system for simplification and enhancement and implements new functionality and regulations. Identifies inefficiencies within current technology and identifies opportunities to improve technological systems. Tests system upgrades and new releases. Provides training and assistance to end-users on system operation. Creates and routinely runs comparison reports to ensure data integrity and validity in the Banner Ellucian Financial Aid system. Runs daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly routines in the system to ensure Financial Aid funds are awarded correctly and processed in a timely manner. Reconciles federal financial aid funds between the Ellucian Banner Financial Aid system, the OHSU Bursar’s system and the U.S. Department of Education systems. Audits, cross-checks and corrects student data to meet the requirements for administrating student financial aid.
  • Writes reports using the Cognos data warehouse and verifies their accuracy using the Ellucian Banner Financial Aid system. Gathers data and coordinates with other departments in the completion of the U.S. Department of Education FISAP, and other monthly, quarterly and annual reports. Generates ad-hoc reports, gathers/provides data to support reporting needs, and analyzes data to help in business decision making. Completes Direct Loan and Pell Grant disbusement reporting to the Department of Education. Completes Oregon Opportunity Grant reporting to the Oregon Student Access Commission and other internal and external reports as needed.
  • Creates and maintains a robust documentation system to support critical technical functions. Serves as Network Contact with ITG and troubleshoots problems with office computer applications and hardware problems. Orders computers/printers/monitors. Performs set up and support of departments’ applications. Provides consultation to other units to ensure the Student Financial Aid department is effectively collaborating with other offices. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, or related field.

  • Minimum four years of industry related experience working with computer information systems
