About the role

The Department of Teaching and Leadership in the College of Education at Pittsburg State University seeks applicants for an elementary education faculty member with an expertise in reading, at the rank of Assistant Instructional Professor or higher based on experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses focused on evidence-based literacy acquisition, grounded in the science of reading.
  • Mentor and instruct students to become literacy leaders in their professions.
  • Contribute to the creation and leadership of the regional Center for Excellence in Reading.
  • Apply Structured Literacy methodologies in teaching and practice.
  • Align teaching and activities with the Kansas Blueprint for Literacy.
  • Collaborate with faculty in an established, energetic, and supportive environment.

Education and Experience

Required Education and Experience – Time of Hire

  • Master’s degree in education, reading or similar field
  • Teaching certification in an area of education
  • 3 years’ experience of full-time public school teaching experience in the United States
  • Experience utilizing evidence-based approaches in classroom and intervention settings with struggling students and/or teachers.
  • Candidate must be willing to pursue a doctorate degree

Preferred Education and Experience – 

  • Doctorate degree or ABD from regionally accredited institution
  • Theoretical knowledge and practical experience including working with diverse student populations, teaching a variety of content areas, and conducting a variety of assessments
  • Evidence of teaching excellence, both in-person and online.
  • Interest and/or experience in teacher preparation
  • University teaching experience at the undergraduate level or above
