About the role

POSITION: Literacy Interventionist 

GRADE LEVEL: Middle School (Grades 6-8)

SALARY: $58,000-$76,000 based on aligned years of experience up to 10 years. We also offer a relocation stipend for anyone joining us from 75 miles or more from Denver! 

STATUS: Full time, benefits eligible, exempt, in-person position (Denver, CO)

THE ROLE

At DSST, we utilize an MTSS framework and believe in a tier 1 (or “best first”) approach when it comes to closing reading gaps for most students. Our Literacy Interventionists play a key role in ensuring all students become proficient readers by: 

1. leading the implementation of literacy best practices in all tier 1 classrooms

2. working extensively with identified tier 2 students in small groups

3. building the capacity of student’s families to support their literacy journey

In addition to the key teacher responsibilities listed below, Literacy Interventionists will:

  • strategically analyze data to identify Tier 3 students needing literacy intervention and deliver Tier 3 instruction focused on improving specific reading skills such as letter-naming, initial sounds, phoneme segmentation, fluency, and comprehension strategies.

  • administer assessments to further diagnose student need based on initial student screener and regularly progress monitor intervention students to assess growth and need.

  • work with all stakeholders, especially the school's leadership team, to cultivate a school-wide literacy vision, mindsets, goals, and actionable next steps (Literacy Needs Assessment) as well as monitor accountability measures to ensure high-quality implementation.

  • monitor execution and accountability of ReadAct/Read Plan programming.

  • partner with the school’s Community Engagement & Recruitment Manager to bring literacy resources and support directly to families including family literacy nights, reading at home courses for families, and other activities to strengthen parental involvement.

  • participate in coaching and development specific to the Literacy Interventionist role including bi-weekly 1:1 meetings with DSST’s Senior Manager of Literacy Intervention as well as a monthly professional development meeting at the DSST Home Office.

Key Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Deliver Rigorous & Engaging Content: Design, plan, and teach rigorous interventions to 3-4 groups daily depending on campus. DSST prioritizes curriculum that centers the cultures and histories of underrepresented and marginalized communities. 

  • Track and Support Student Growth: Prioritize students’ intellectual growth by holding high expectations for academic success including monitoring and assessing the performance of all students through a variety of assessment tools and resources to guide instruction and support individual student proficiency.
