Senior Director, Student Conduct (Office of Student Conduct)

Reporting to the Associate Vice Provost for Student Affairs, we are seeking a Senior Director of Student Conduct who will be responsible for leading and overseeing all functions and strategic planning for the university-wide Office of Student Conduct, which manages the student conduct system and efforts to educate students about community standards of conduct across all Johns Hopkins University schools and divisions. The role of the Senior Director encompasses leading innovative and robust strategic planning initiatives, inclusive of conflict resolution and other restorative practices, underpinned by a comprehensive assessment plan designed to facilitate data-driven and evidence-based decision-making.
This role administers the university-wide student conduct system for all students and student organizational/group non-academic misconduct under the Student Conduct Code, as well as the Advanced Academic Programs graduate and Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and Whiting School of Education undergraduate academic violations under their respective academic ethics policies. Additionally, this role also provides oversight for the student resolution processes for the university-wide Sexual Misconduct Policy and Procedures (SMPP) and the Discrimination and Harassment Policy and Procedures (DHPP).
The Senior Director will directly and indirectly supervise a dedicated team of student conduct educators who prioritize student development and education throughout the conduct process. These educators are committed to providing prompt, fair, and impartial investigations and resolutions, balancing both the interests of the individual student and the larger university community, while fostering an environment that supports academic achievement, community responsibility, and harm reduction.
The Senior Director works closely with the Vice Deans for Undergraduate Education and Advanced Academic Programs on academic integrity matters, Homewood and Peabody Residential Life offices, Fraternity and Sorority Life, and university-wide student affairs offices responsible for recognized student organizations. This role must have a strong working knowledge of Student Conduct, Academic Integrity, Clery, conflict resolution, restorative practices, Title IX, Title VI, and Hazing laws and education, and remain up to date on local, regional, and national laws/mandates impacting student conduct.
The Senior Director represents Student Conduct and the Office of the Vice Provost of Student Affairs with a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality, and the ability to interact with a wide range of constituencies, including faculty, staff, high-level administrators, and community partners.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversight for university-wide student conduct processes on and off campus, including those occurring in university residences and recognized student organizations.
- Leads and provides oversight for highly complex, sensitive cases, requiring daily interaction and coordination with students, their families, Public Safety, JHPD, legal counsel, external law enforcement personnel, faculty, staff, and senior administrators.
- Oversees and conducts administrative hearings for students or student groups who are referred for ethics and Student Conduct Code violations.
- Leads and provides oversight for the development and implementation of educational and training programs for faculty and staff, investigators, adjudicators, and for various student groups and organizations on university policies, student rights and responsibilities, and student conduct processes.
- Oversees and conducts informational & investigative processes for students or student groups for potential Student Conduct Code violations.
- Leads and provides oversight for conflict resolution and restorative practices initiatives.
- Produces reports, proposals and assessments, including but not limited to progress reports, annual reports and other requested data related to the Student Conduct system.
- Recruits, hires, trains, supervise, and evaluates the professional team for Student Conduct.
- Oversight for the creation, release, maintenance, and archiving of student disciplinary records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and applicable University policies.
- Strategic oversight for recruitment efforts, selection process, and training of the Student Conduct Board and Undergraduate Academic Ethics Board.
- Leads planning and facilitation of training opportunities for all students, faculty and staff, including Student Conduct Board, Residential Life, and Student Affairs staff, who administer student conduct cases or assist with the process in an advisory capacity.
