The Director of Bacterial Vaccines at Pfizer is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping the vision, strategy, and execution within Pfizer’s bacterial vaccine pipeline. This position requires an innovative and experienced leader with expertise in vaccine research and development. The Director will oversee a team of direct reports, with accountability for bacterial vaccine program research scientific leadership as well as oversight of antigen design and development (Molecular Biology) and serological and biochemical assay development (assays), including cell-based and ligand binding assays.

What You Will Achieve
In this role, you will:
Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the long-term strategy for the bacterial vaccines program, aligning with Pfizer’s global objectives and public health priorities.
Scientific Oversight: Lead a multidisciplinary team of scientists, driving innovation in vaccine discovery, antigen design (molecular biology) and preclinical assay development (serological, biochemical and functional assay [OPA] development)
Considered a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for bacterial vaccines, particularly in the
area of Group B Streptococcus and Streptococcal speciesActs as technical / functional expert providing business direction to Vaccine Research
& Development while leveraging collaborations across Bioprocess, Medical Affairs,
Regulatory, Manufacturing and CommercialManage people, technology, and financial resources within Bacterial Vaccines Research
& DevelopmentTalent Development: Mentor and develop team members, cultivating scientific
excellence and leadership within the group.Solves highly complex problems and hold accountability for decisions within Vaccine Research & Development
Stakeholder Engagement: Represent Pfizer’s bacterial vaccines portfolio with key
opinion leaders, government agencies, and global health organizations.Regulatory and Compliance: Ensure all research and development activities comply
with regulatory guidelines, ethical standards, and Pfizer’s internal policies.Influences senior management decisions that have impact on business direction within
Vaccine Research & DevelopmentShare knowledge across Bacterial Vaccines and establish systems for knowledge sharing
Foster continuous improvement and innovation in daily operations, encouraging acceptable risk-taking
Contribute to strategy development and execution, and manage talent and leadership development, including succession planning
Hold senior managers accountable for skill development and diversity, and lead resources to deliver on priorities
Set objectives and manage multiple high-complexity projects, leading scientists and reviewing experimental designs and data
Oversee planning, goal setting, and prioritization of novel vaccine programs, guiding experimentation in alignment with Bacterial Vaccines
Act as a primary scientific liaison with external partners, manage the vaccine and serve as a thought leader and spokesperson for Pfizer research
Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)
PhD with 5+ years in microbiology, immunology, or a related scientific discipline
Extensive experience in bacterial vaccine research and development, including leadership roles in the biopharmaceutical industry
Demonstrated track record of advancing bacterial vaccine candidates from discovery through clinical development
Demonstrated ability to manage a team of scientists and promote individual career development
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Experience managing complex cross-functional projects and delivering results
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
Ability to independently design, plan, execute, and inter
