Staff Social Media Specialist (Part Time, 17.5 hours/week)

Do you love creating engaging social media content and connecting with your audience? Are you thrilled when you see increased engagement? Are you organized and a strategic planner?

The College of Humanities communications team is seeking a staff social media specialist to create brand-aligned social media content for the College on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook. This role is a key member of the editorial team and will oversee content creation and mentor student social media specialists.

What you’ll do in this position:

Collaborate with editorial & social media supervisor and executive team on social strategy and messaging

  • Attend monthly university social media meetings and incorporate university direction in team and College functions 
  • Participate in developing and implementing content strategy and messaging

Collaborate with and mentor student social media manager

  • Assist in scheduling and organizing content calendar
  • Collaborate on composition and content for accuracy, clarity, and appropriateness
  • Monitor student social media specialist’s assignments

Create and manage posts, campaigns, content, and presence for College’s social media platforms

  • Monitor posts through approval processes
  • Collaborate with copyeditor to ensure grammatical and style accuracy
  • Manage comments and DMs
  • Incorporate executive team feedback on content

Measure social media performance through data collection and analysis

  • Provide monthly reporting tor editorial & social media supervisor and executive team 
  • Identify opportunities for improved performance and reach

Provide support for College unit social media accounts

  • Conduct regular audits of College social media pages to ensure brand alignment
  • Provide regular social media training to College communications committee
  • Consult on College unit social media strategy when requested

What qualifies you for this role: 

Required

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree AND one year of social media experience (part-time is acceptable, including as a student) or 3–5 years of equivalent work experience. 
  • Skilled in planning, creating, and executing social media content and social media campaigns
  • Superior communication and copywriting skills 
  • Ability to use data to define audiences and segments based on their interests, behaviors, patterns, demographics, or other traits and adjust strategy according to user behaviors 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a willingness to collaborate with team leadership
  • Ability to create original, engaging, aesthetics graphics on Canva and to create reels on Instagram
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Self-motivated, creative, and organized

Preferred

  • Experience in teaching, mentoring, or training 
  • Experience with Airtable or other project management software
  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, advertising, marketing, digital media messaging, journalism, communications, professional writing, or related field of study AND one-plus year of work experience (part-time is acceptable, including as a student) or 5 or more ears of equivalent work experience.
