About Bitcoin Platform 

The Bitcoin Platform team develops infrastructure for Block to send, receive and custody bitcoin by operating a stack for both cold and hot wallets. Our goal is to bring bitcoin to people around the world, unlocking previously impossible use cases to accelerate a world built on better money. 

Job Description

• Lead technical and architectural direction for the development, design, integration, testing, and maintenance of the platform.

• Lead agile software processes for the engineering team and introduce best-in-class industry practices.

• Foster ownership, inclusiveness, accountability, and urgency in the organization.

• Ensure our development velocity stays responsive and predictable while minimizing production incidents of our operations.

• Build an outstanding organization by hiring exceptional talent and developing engineering managers, fostering pragmatic engineering decision-making, and applying your expertise to constantly raise the bar.

• Manage technical debt to ensure our development velocity stays responsive and predictable while minimizing production incidents of our operations.

• Act as an internal ambassador for the engineering team to other groups, communicating the opportunities and constraints technology offers to the development of our internal projects.

Qualifications

You have:

• Deep understanding of Bitcoin and the broader crypto ecosystem.

• Minimum of 10+ years relevant software development and systems design or architecture experience

• Minimum 5+ years managing engineering managers and cross functional eng teams

• 15+ years of combined experience; we need a solid people leader who can still work close to the technical problem 

• Our title, Lead, is equivalent to Director, Senior Director, Head of Engineering or VP at scaled companies

• Our title, Lead, is equivalent to Director, Senior Director, Head of Engineering or VP at other companies 

• Experience with working on and managing teams that worked on and operated business critical distributed systems infrastructure

• Experience effectively managing demanding stakeholders and partner relationships.

• Technical to the point of having clarity with principal engineers and engineering leaders on architecture and engineering strategy decisions.

• A good mix of process orientation and bias to action.

• Skilled in collaborating across functions and possesses the abilities to think critically, communicate clearly, and make difficult decisions and tradeoffs either independently or in a coordinated manner.

• Experience in building a team, defining its mission, and executing on its goals. Able to demonstrate going through the whole full lifecycle of recruiting, mentoring, and retaining great people that fulfill this mission.

• A track record of achieving business and product success in a deeply collaborative organization where they are given a significant level of independence and accountability.
