About the role

Job Description:

AMA is currently accepting applications for a position associated with entry vehicle work conducted at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA.  Work will be in support of the Entry Systems and Vehicle Development Branch (TSS), part of the Entry Systems and Technology Division at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA.

The successful candidate will play an important role in research & development and commercial application of inflatable entry vehicles, co-leading large-scale inflatable aeroshell development, including fabrication, vendor oversight, and testing of manufacturing and flight units. Successful candidates will have experience in developing, manufacturing, instrumenting, testing, and integrating entry vehicles. Experience applying entry, descent, and landing environments to vehicle design and testing is required.

The pay rate for this position will be $180,000-$195,000 and is commensurate with experience and education.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include:

  • Co-lead the development of large-scale inflatable aeroshell systems.

  • Manage aeroshell manufacturing and testing activities.

  • Guide aeroshell design including material selection, flexible thermal protection material application, and development of a deployable nosecone.

  • Supervise vendor-led manufacturing and coordinate system testing.

  • Lead the selection and placement of instrumentation for testing and flight units.

  • Consult on post-flight data analysis and environment reconstruction.

  • Compile, document, and present status updates on vehicle development and testing progress with vendors, customers, and NASA partners.

  • Travel as needed to support program milestones and vendor activities.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of M.S in Engineering with at least 15 years of experience or B.S. in Engineering with at least 17 years of experience in a relevant discipline such as Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Experience with planetary entry vehicle design, development, and testing is required.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required.

  • US citizenship or permanent US residency is required for this position.

This position requires U.S. citizenship or permanent residence.
