Job Summary
A position is available in the Water Quality department for a Field Technician who will primarily be responsible for conducting field investigations to support Water Quality Management, Customer Service and various operating departments.
Principal Responsibilities
- Conduct field investigations that require collecting water samples and performing field tests with advanced testing meters and equipment for compliance and water quality monitoring.
- Collect samples, perform site evaluations and provide water quality information for customers with water quality concerns.
- Provide support to Supply, Utility and Service Operations departments with on-site treatment process feedback and field investigations at treatment plants, distribution systems and customer premises.
- Provide maintenance on supplies and equipment used in sample collection, weekly maintenance of assigned vehicles, and prepares sample bottles for collection.
- Provide support to the Information Services Coordinator with customer water quality problem resolution, providing water quality information directly to the customer
- Assist Laboratory Technicians with reagent preparation, quality assurance and sample preparation for contract laboratories.
- Record sample and test result data, and enter into LIMS databases.
- Various other duties as required.

Preferred Requirements
- The ideal candidate must have good communication and customer service skills.
- Candidate must be able to swim, lift a minimum of 75 lbs., and drive long distances to complete sample collection runs.
- He or she may enter confined spaces and work with hazardous chemicals and small hand tools.
Education/Certifications
- Successful applicants must possess a high school diploma.
- Associate’s and/or Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Environmental Science and/or related field, preferred.
- A valid Connecticut Driver's License, and the ability to obtain a DEEP Boat Operator’s Certificate to operate a motor boat is required.
Salary
- This role will report to the Monroe Office (200 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT 06468).
- This is a full-time, 40 hour a week benefit eligible position.
- Job is classified as a non-exempt position with a weekly starting pay of $23.53/hour.
