Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company is seeking to fill an onsite Senior Project Controls Analyst position in the office of its chemical plant in Cedar Bayou, TX. This position requires a solid project cost and schedule management foundation. This person frequently interacts with project team leadership, project engineers, and other members of site-based functional groups in performing analysis and implementing plans to improve project controls processes. This position will report to the Capital Projects Team Lead.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of contract project cost and schedule analysts.
  • Prepare, analyze and report monthly cost results and prepare monthly forecasting of expense and capital projects.
  • Assist in site capital project budget for the plant, working with the controls team and the various department Team Leads
  • Actively engage with project engineers and managers to understand portfolio-related priorities.
  • Develop new tools and optimize existing processes to enhance the project controls methodologies.
  • Coordinate project controls team in monthly accruals, forecasting, and weekly schedule updates
  • Work with other site to develop Project Controls standardization across the organization.
  • Work with project controls team to ensure timely submittals of project closure requests, project requisitions and SAP project number generation.
  • Lead site trainings of new and existing process and be the owner of the Project Controls training documentation.
  • Optimize and maintain the Project Controls workflow and associated tools.
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of presentations for site management as needed.
  • Develop benchmarking and gap analysis for both project scheduling and cost controls including KPI/CPI metrics.
  • Participate in weekly and monthly cost forecast activities.
  • Assist in continuous cost performance monitoring and reporting on active projects.
  • Work with site estimating team to ensure cost templates and wbs element structures align throughout the lifecycle of a project.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED with at least 15 years of related experience OR Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business with at least 8 years of related experience.
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Solid understanding of the frameworks and methodologies of Primavera P6 schedule architectures.
  • Strong business analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail are required.
  • Thorough understanding of project cost management principles, in particular plant project cost accounting, forecasting, and scheduling
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate with employees at all organizational levels.
  • Should be a self-starter, be an active participant on teams, and proactively meet with customers to meet their needs, this includes an “approachable mentality” working with others to foster a single team environment.
  • Capable of recognizing, defining, and resolving issues. Ability to apply new technologies to improve business processes or solve business problems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Experience with Accounting SAP FI/CO module or other ERP systems.
  • At least eight to ten years related Accounting/Finance experience
  • At least five years of Chemical, Oil & Gas, or Energy industry experience
  • Experience with PowerBI, SharePoint, TRACK and Planful
  • Capable of recognizing, defining, and resolving issues. Ability to apply new technologies to improve business processes or solve business problems
