Title: School Nutrition Services Team Leader, Elementary 

Reports To: School Nutrition Service Coordinator and Area Supervisor

Takes Direction From:  Area Supervisor

Schedule/Calendar:  6-8 hours/day | 35-40 hours/week |184 days/year 

 

Summary: To coordinate the preparation and service of food, under the direct
supervision of the Area Supervisor, following all district policies, procedures and
methods in order to provide meals that meet the nutritional needs of students and
maximize student acceptance at minimal expense, supervise unit employees.


Essential Functions:
 

  • Hands-on work ethic in all areas of kitchen procedures.
  • Order food and supplies according to production needs.
  • Receive all food orders according to procedures.
  • Maintain proper storage of all food and supplies.
  • Coordinate the preparation and service of food following standardized recipes.
  • Complete and maintain production and daily sales reporting according to policy and
    procedures.
  • Supervise and maintain ServSafe, HACCP, and general food safety regulations
    throughout the operation.
  • Assist Area Supervisor in completing the monthly inventory.
  • Ability to run Point of Sale computer system.
  • Supervise serving staff
    • Maintain an organized and attractive serving line.
    • Hot lines are full and all products are organized and marketed attractively.
    • Record temperatures of both hot and cold foods, record on production
      records.
    • Make sure staff has the proper serving utensils.
    • Employees are following all HACCP and departmental policies and
      procedures.
    • Market our program to students and faculty with creative promotions.
    • Assist students where necessary to move lines quickly.
  • Maintain a line of communication between the School Nutrition Service department
    and all other areas of the school community.
  • Supervise kitchen and cafeteria staff in all areas.
  • Verify and sign leave forms and send to central office in a timely manner.
  • Verify payroll on web based payroll and on paper time sheets.
  • Attend relevant training programs, workshops, and team leader monthly meetings.
  • Work in cooperation with other kitchen staff members to complete the day's work.
  • Print all End-of-the-Day reports.
  • Responsible for accurate End-of-the-Day deposits.
  • Complete all HACCP related controls on a regular basis and as needed.
  • Market the School Breakfast and Lunch Program to students.
  • Collect negative balances.
  • School catering functions.
  • Special orders for H & S Associations, class picnics or other functions.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor

     

Education and/or Certification Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED; ServSafe Certification
     

Experience Needed:

  •  Minimum 5 years' food service experience
  • School food service preferred
  • Computer experience necessary
  • Point of Sale experience preferred


Requisite Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience of large quantity food preparation and the ability to use
    professional food service equipment
  • Good listening and supervisory skills
