Overview
The Department of Buildings and General Services (BGS) is currently accepting applications from all architectural and engineering candidates for the position of Buildings Project Manager.
The Buildings Project Manager is responsible for the following duties, including, but not limited to:
- Management of all phases of assigned projects including project inception
- Testifying before legislative committees
- Advertising for, and hiring, teams of outside consultant engineers, architects and technicians
- Bidding projects
- Managing projects through construction.
In addition to project management, this position will assist Operations and Maintenance with smaller projects, which could include in-house design. The Buildings Project Manager will also assist the Design and Construction Program Chief with technical reviews, vendor evaluations, design guidelines, standard specifications, and procedures. Candidates should have some experience associated with construction project management, capital improvement, design, and maintenance. Candidates should have some experience associated with mechanical/HVAC/Energy controls and/or commission projects, capital improvement, maintenance, design, and construction projects.

Environmental Factors
Duties are performed in office and field settings, including operationally challenging facilities such as psychiatric care and correctional facilities, or the forensics and health laboratories. Attendance at public meetings as a representative of the Department may be required. Some public speaking may be necessary. Private means of transportation must be available for required travel. Duties may not always adhere to a standard daily or weekly schedule. Some exposure to adverse climate conditions and adversarial opinions is predictable.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field AND two (2) years or more of experience in engineering, architecture, construction management, or construction supervision.
OR
Associates degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field AND four (4) years or more of experience in engineering, architecture, construction management, or construction supervision.
OR
High school diploma or equivalent and eight (8) years or more of experience in engineering, architecture, construction management or construction supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of: energy audits, performance/understanding of calculated energy savings and payback period, implementation of energy saving modifications/upgrades through equipment selection, and/or reconstruction/renovation.
