Job Description
We are seeking a highly-motivated Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Facilities Engineering student to join our Manufacturing Facilities team at Western Digital. An intern in this position will make significant contributions to the development of world-class hard disk drives by providing engineering support to our state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing facilities at our Great Oaks headquarters and our Fremont site.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create new capital project ROM estimates, construction schedules.
- Review new mechanical systems designs produced by MEP design firms under contract to WD.
- Assist with facility condition assessment of existing facility mechanical/process systems.
- Review existing mechanical system designs and provide engineering solution, Make suggestions on improvements.
- Review existing mechanical systems installations through field investigation to troubleshoot issues.
- Create and maintain equipment capacity, loading and redundancy spreadsheets.
- Evaluation of new systems or equipment using ROI, total cost of ownership, reliability, performance, and energy efficiency calculations along with schedule impacts.
- Able to multitask and to keep project data organized and up to date.
- Review and approve construction task plans.
- Work in a cross-functional environment and coordinate with Maintenance and Operations, Environmental Health and Safety and Manufacturing, Contractors, Vendors and Consultants.
- Acquire working knowledge of Building Codes, Energy Codes and ASHRAE/NFPA Standards.
Qualifications
REQUIRED
- Current student pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering or Facilities Engineering, and graduating between December 2025 and June 2026
- Candidates who will not require relocation to work from San Jose, CA will be preferred in the process.
- Minimum of 3.0 GPA
SKILLS
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Strong technical skills in area of study
- Interest in HDD, semiconductor, components, nonvolatile memory industry
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
