The Advisor, Project Management - Climate, coordinates climate work across Save the Children United States (SCUS), facilitating cross-sectoral and cross-divisional climate work in the Department of Hunger & Livelihoods (DHL), International Programs Division (IP), SCUS, and Save the Children International (SCI). You will cooperate closely with SCUS’s Head, Hunger, Livelihoods & Climate (Head of DHL). You will play a critical role in strategic planning, project, change and knowledge management. You will be key to advancing climate work to secure greater impact for children around the world.
What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)
Climate Strategy Development & Planning (50%)
- Facilitate and support annual climate planning across SCUS, ensuring cross-divisional agreement on climate steers and strategic objectives.
- Schedule and support regular IP climate staff and SCUS Climate Leads meetings. etc., as agreed with Head of DHL, to ensure coordination of climate work across SCUS and with SCI.
- Manage and lead budget and strategy development for climate, working in close collaboration with Head of DHL. Verify budget reflects strategic objectives, coordinating with others, e.g. Climate Leads, to incorporate climate requests in division budgets.
- As agreed with the Head of DHL, support SCl’s Global Head of Climate on key strategic issues, e.g. strategy refresh process and preparation for Management Committee presentations on climate strategy and program updates.
- Unite with New Business Development (NBD) staff, both within IP and Partnerships and Philanthropy (P & P), to develop and implement fundraising plan for climate to deliver on the strategy. Present plan progress to Head of DHL on a regular basis.
Project and Change Management (20%)
- Manage and regularly review climate structures and ways of working to improve collaboration across divisions, increasing effectiveness and efficiency. Help troubleshoot issues and risk and/or align leaders.
- Prepare SCUS’ annual cross-divisional climate workplan in close consultation with Climate Leads. Monitor progress and address workplan implementation roadblocks, in consultation with Head of DHL and Climate Leads.
- Coordinate quarterly updates for Senior Leadership Team (SLT) staff, in collaboration with Head of DHL.
- Draft responses to any climate-related inquiries from SLT and/or Board for approval by Head of DHL.
- Support Head of DHL on the internal socialization of climate strategy across SCUS.
- Monitor SCUS sustainability efforts: facilitate updates for Climate Leads, coordinate meetings with SCI, and review sustainability reports and documents, in collaboration with SCUS’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) and others.
Knowledge Management, Thought Leadership, and Research (30%)
- Develop and maintain climate content on SharePoint, linking existing resources from SCUS, Save the Children’s global movement, and external sources. Work with SCUS colleagues to update key documents, e.g. stakeholder mapping and program offers as needed.
- Document climate-related programming best practices and impact, in partnership with DHL technical and communications staff.
- Develop a climate learning agenda, annually, and track progress with technical teams.
- In collaboration with DHL and NBD colleagues, monitor external trends, peer learning and research to support business development and positioning efforts.
- Coordinate with and support P&P’s Senior Director of Climate Partnerships (SDCP) on knowledge management and thought leadership, particularly around inclusion of technical input from IP and other colleagues.
- Support the Head of DHL in preparing climate presentations, blogs, and articles for thought leadership purposes and donor meetings.
- Promote climate thought leadership, providing technical input for communications efforts to the Marketing, Communication, and Fundraising (MCF) unit.
