To support activities of R&D Center of Excellence of Vesuvius Ghlin (~150 employees), we are looking for a Payroll/Compensation & Benefits Expert.

As the Payroll/Compensation & Benefits Expert for the Ghlin site (~150 employees), you will be responsible for managing payroll operations and overseeing the implementation of compensation and benefits programs. This is an expert-level position, with a focus on the payroll and benefits of the Ghlin workforce and includes managing specific cases (cross-border workers, impatriates, split salaries…) and packages optimization.

You will collaborate closely with our external payroll partner, Group S, and external advisors to ensure payroll and tax compliance, accuracy, and smooth execution. This role does not involve direct management of a team, allowing you to focus on the operational and technical aspects of payroll and benefits management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Management: Oversee the timely and accurate payroll processing for employees at the Ghlin site in collaboration with our social secretariat, Group S. Ensure compliance with Belgian labor laws and tax regulations.
  • Management of Specific Cases: Handle payroll and benefits for specific cases such as cross-border workers, impatriates, ensuring their tax and social security needs are met accurately and in compliance with Belgian regulations.
  • Compensation & Benefits: Implement and manage local compensation and benefits programs, including salary reviews, bonuses, warrants, stock-options, pension schemes, and other employee incentives, ensuring they remain competitive and compliant.
  • Compliance & Reporting: Ensure compliance with Belgian statutory regulations, tax filings, and labor law requirements, staying informed about local regulatory changes and working with Group S to implement necessary updates.
  • HR Data base administration: ensure regular update of employees data in different HR data systems (Success Factor, leave management (Kelio), …)
  • HR Collaboration: Partner closely with the HR Manager Ghlin and Group HR community to provide payroll and benefits insights, manage employee queries, and support any internal and external audits or reporting requirements.
  • Vendor Management: Manage the relationship with Group S, ensuring efficient payroll service delivery and accurate data handling. Act as the primary point of contact for any payroll-related issues or updates.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance payroll and benefits processes at the site level to streamline operations and ensure optimal accuracy.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Human resources/Social legislation, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in payroll and compensation & benefits management, with specific knowledge of Belgian labor laws and tax regulations, packages optimization
  • Technical Skills: Strong expertise in Belgian payroll systems and processes, with a solid understanding of Belgian social security and tax structures. Experience working with Group S or similar social secretariats is required. Experience with cases involving impatriates, frontaliers… is a strong plus.
  • Language Skills: Fluent in English, French and Dutch
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional precision in payroll execution and benefits management, ensuring accuracy in all financial transactions.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to address and resolve payroll discrepancies efficiently and with a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Communication Skills: Good interpersonal skills for interacting with local employees, other Group departments, Shared Services and external vendors, providing clear guidance on payroll and benefits-related matters.
  • Organizational Skills: Priorities management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Confidentiality: High level of discretion and respect for the confidentiality of sensitive employee and payroll information.
  • Flexibility & Adaptability: Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment and adapt to regulatory or organization changes quickly.
