The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

 

The position contributes to the planning and execution of individual component and subassembly test of electrical, mechanical, and fluid systems. Requires close work with design engineers to establish test requirements and develop test plans and procedures for execution of qualification testing. The role identifies the test fixtures, test support equipment, and data acquisition systems necessary to execute the required testing and work with tooling and equipment designers and manufacturers as necessary to design, fabricate, and procure this hardware.

 

Provide support to prototyping and development teams to develop test setups for initial functionality demonstration and evaluation as well as Qualification testing.

 

Responsibilities

·        Develop test requirements and verification methods through close collaboration with the Design Engineering team.

·        Interface with the customer, negotiate test requirements and methods, jointly develop plans, and communicate and report on test progress.

·        Collaborate with the subsystem team to develop hardware and incorporate changes in system design to meet requirements.

·        Plan and perform qualification testing which will include performance testing and environmental testing of hardware, including vibration testing, thermal cycling, and electromagnetic interference tests.

·        Analyze test results to identify defects and areas for improvement.

·        Collaborate with subsystem teams to address hardware defects.

·        Create detailed test reports and specifications.

·        Maintain and operate test equipment.

·        Ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards.

·        Perform root cause analysis on test failures.

·        Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on hardware designs.

·        Support sustaining engineering efforts and address obsolescence issues.

·        Conduct market research to select required components and equipment.

·        Continuously improve test processes and methodologies.
