About the role

POSITION SUMMARY: The Medical Scribe works directly with  physicians and licensed healthcare providers to electronically enter and record medical data and other related information, as verbally dictated by physicians and licensed healthcare providers during patient visits; accurately capturing  history  of  present illness,  physical examination, assessment, treatment plan. The position will also be responsible for medical data information updates and routine database maintenance, under the direction of physicians and health care providers.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1.    High School Diploma or equivalent

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB  SUCCESSFULLY:

  1. Willingness to attain proficiency in electronic medical record software.
  2. Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word.
  3. Reliability, eagerness to learn and dedication to the position.
  4. Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
  5. Ability to effectively interpret and follow oral and written instructions.
  6. Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to multi---task efficiently.
  7. Ability to work under pressure with time constraints.
  8. Ability to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care.
  9. Professional attitude and appearance.
  10. Ability to maintain confidentially in all work performed.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    1. Completion of coursework in pre-medical and biomedical sciences strongly preferred

    2. Interest in healthcare delivery and patient care

    3. Previous experience using an electronic medical records reporting system.

    4. Experience with medical terminology, including human anatomy and medications

PERFORMANCE  STANDARDS:

Completes all assigned duties by established deadlines and in accordance with established or defined protocols, policies, and procedures.

Consistentlymaintains and protects the confidentiality of all patients.

Apprises supervisor of issues that might impede timely completion of assigned duties and/or departmental projects.

Exercises sound judgment and discretion at all times and maintains cooperative working relationships with both internal and external constituencies and co---workers.

Exhibits a willingness to perform other duties as requested or required efficiently and timely.

Complies with allpolicies and procedures as stipulated in the Tulane Staff Handbook.
