Job Description

Make your mark as Lead Structural Engineer at Boskalis Offshore Energy and work for prestigious and challenging offshore projects!

As a Lead Structural Engineer, you will be working for the Global Engineering department of the Boskalis Offshore Energy division in Papendrecht. This department is responsible for the strength verification of the vessels and equipment and design of various temporary works, structures and providing technical support. These often relate to complex projects in the sustainable energy and oil & gas sectors.

You will manage a team of 4 to 8 structural engineers. As the lead you will be the technical focal point for the delivery of all projects within the business unit Subsea Cables in Boskalis Offshore Energy. You will coach and guide the structural engineers assigned to your group and regulary review their performance.

 We are looking for a pragmatic and solution-oriented engineer with an eye to safety and ability to grow in a leadership position. In the role of Lead Structural Engineer, you will be able to rely on your technical affinity, experience and social skills to make a stable contribution to our team. You understand the dynamics of the contracting world, you are a team player who finds it easy to switch between the client, the crew of a vessel, external stakeholders and colleagues.

Your responsibilities

  • First point of contact for questions and requests for the business unit regarding strength verifications and structural/mechanical designs.
  • Create clear scopes of work from the requests and delegate the work between your team and yourselves or outsource if the team is out of capacity.
  • Prepare reports with design an verification calculations for all structural works within Scope, Budget and Schedule;
  • Develop various concepts for design and advice on the most suitable solution for the problem;
  • Verification of drawings to ensure that these match with engineering performed;
  • Initiate and document good engineering practices, tools and departmental standards;
  • First point of contact during construction and fabrication of the designed items;
  • Managing design and verification works at subcontractor engineering firms;
  • Perform as mentor for Senior, Medior and Junior Engineers and keep track of performance within the team.
  • Your Typical Deliverables from the team: Seafastening analyses, Lifting point verification, strength verifications of vessels global and underdeck, strength checks on design of mechanical equipment etc.

Your qualities and experience

You can move ahead as a Lead Structural Engineer if you have:

  • Recognized MSc or BSc Degree in preferably Marine or Mechanical engineering. Or Aerospace and Civil engineering with added relevant experience.
  • 10+ years of experience engineering in the Offshore field, Practical Offshore experience in a similar, of which some years in a lead position
  • Extensive knowledge of Class rules for vessels (LR, BV, ABS), offshore structures (DNV, API) and Operational guidelines (DNVGL) used by MWS
  • Able to write Basis of Design, Design Briefs and specifications
  • Strong insight on constructability
  • Well versed in at least 2 FEA packages preferably ANSYS, FEMAP, SACS and Mathcad
  • A good command of spoken English and academic reporting skills.
