Job Description Qualifications:

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Senior Structural Designer (Level 5) for the Space Intelligence and Weapon Systems (SI&WS) Integrated Design Center in Huntsville, AL, Houston, TX or Titusville, FL, which is a multi-function Engineering Organization with a mission statement to provide engineering solutions via a highly skilled flexible workforce and cutting edge technologies for the advancement of the Boeing Enterprise. Position Responsibilities: 

  • Provides oversight and direction to develop, integrate and document structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design.
  • Leads development, maintenance and modification of structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Leads performance, integration and analysis of tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.
  • Develops new design/analysis processes and tools to improve the effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort.
  • Investigates emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.  

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience):  (see education and experience for this level below)

  • Bachelors degree or higher in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. 
  • 10 or more years’ experience in structural design process from conceptual layout phase through build-to package release.
  • 5 or more years’ experience in Model Based Definition.
  • 5 or more years’ experience in leading a structural design team through product development.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • CATIA, Enovia, NX CAD and Teamcenter PDM skills.
  • Experience leading diverse technical teams.
  • Experience in earned value management.
  • Experience in utilization of new materials.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.

Typical Education/Experience: 

Level 5 - Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
