Seasonal Recreation Worker

Performs a variety of entry level, general operational functions as needed to effectively and efficiently implement a variety of recreation programs, classes, activities and events.
Works under the close to general supervision of the Recreation Programmer and/or Recreation Services Supervisor.
Assists with coordinating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating recreation programs, classes, activities, and special events; keeps activities on schedule and within guidelines as required; monitors various recreation facilities and park grounds.
Directs, instructs, and assists participants of all ages and abilities with various indoor and outdoor recreation activities.
Moves and lifts tables, chairs, and other equipment and supplies for recreation activities.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Open positions are at the Uptown Market, Sermon Center and George Owens Nature Park, but could be scheduled to work at other facility locations including the Palmer Center and Truman Memorial Building.
Minimum Qualifications: Sufficient experience to demonstrate an ability or aptitude to perform above and related duties;
Some knowledge of recreation programs, sports, parks, and other related park and recreation activities.
Skill in using tact, discretion, initiative, and independent judgment within established guidelines; communicating clearly and effectively orally and in writing. Bilingual skills beneficial.
Ability to deal diplomatically and courteously with the public, including children, adults, and senior adults; understand and carry out oral and written instructions, giving close attention to detail and accuracy; to work with diverse groups of customers; apply common sense understanding to carry out basic one-or two-step instructions.
Valid Driver’s License
Must complete required company provided NIMS level training within first two months of hire.
Typical Work Environment: Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with conditions of hot, cold, and windy weather; dust and dirt; varying levels of noise from quiet to loud. While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to walk, sit, climb stairs, kneel, crawl, stand, bend, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, to reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity is required. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, critical thinking, and creative problem solving. Days and hours of work vary; must be available to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
