Brown and Caldwell has a Civil/Environmental Engineering Intern opportunity for an to spend a summer working with our civil and environmental engineering team to support our Irvine, California office. We are seeking a motivated, achievement-oriented individual who wants to spend their summer gaining practical, hands-on experience outside of the classroom. Detailed Description:  

How Will You Make an Impact?:  

Interns at Brown and Caldwell make a daily, material impact by completing support duties to advance their team’s projects and objectives. They receive professional training and the support of their team. Interns can expect to be onboarded, mentored, and developed by industry leaders to develop real-life skills and make an impact on their assigned projects. Projects this role may work on include: 

As a Civil/Environmental Engineering Intern, you can expect your experience to include the following:  

• Work closely with project managers and other team members to execute work involving conventional types of civil, environmental, and/or mechanical engineering principals and other related activities for water and wastewater projects. 
• Conduct technical evaluations to support planning and design related to water and wastewater conveyance and treatment systems, pumping systems, and piping systems. 
• Assist with the preparation of calculations, technical memoranda, reports, presentations, drawings, specifications, and miscellaneous contract documents. 
• Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications as part of engineering services during construction. 
• Assist with submittal reviews, requests for information, correspondence, change requests, and change orders for construction projects. 
• Conduct field work as necessary for projects. 
• Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams including other disciplines (drafters, designers, and other engineers). 
• Successfully manage and deliver assignments on time and on budget. 
• This role will work out of our Irvine, California office and will be fully in-person.  

Desired Skills and Experience:  

To qualify for an internship, you must be enrolled in a full-time program (minimum nine credit hours per semester) seeking a degree in engineering, science, geology, or a related field. You also must be in good standing and carry an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in your core curriculum, as well as a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.  

What Must Our Candidate Have? (Required)  

• Attending university working on obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Civil/Mechanical/Environmental/Chemical Engineering or related engineering field; graduate students may also be considered. 

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Look Like? (Preferred) 

• Good technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts 
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills 
• Self-starter, results-oriented, and ability to work under tight deadlines 
• Ability to work both independently and on large coordinated teams 
• Ability and willingness to perform field work at various sites 
• Strong aptitude for researching and solving technical problems 
• Proficiency in standard software including MS Office, Outlook, and Bluebeam 
• EIT preferred
