As a Propulsion Engineer – Level 4 located in Hill Air Force Base, UT, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.

This position involves all aspects of sustaining the Minuteman III ICBM propulsion systems from depot level maintenance to static and flight tests for solids hardware. This Project Engineer position works within a team alongside Air Force and other contractor counterparts to plan and execute aging surveillance tests at the system and component level. The position may also involve the support and analysis of component level tests, motor static tests, and missile flight tests; the evaluation and planning of methods of approach to integrate new products, technologies, or materials into existing systems; to investigate hardware / test anomalies, determine root cause, and provide recommended countermeasures to the Air Force customer. 

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.  

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Design, Analysis, and Project Engineer roles for technical support of Solid Propulsion Aging and Surveillance (AS), Sustainment, and Procurement activities for the Minuteman III ICBM system 

  • Test planning role for Aging and Surveillance tests for Service Life Estimates 

  • Represent the PSSC program to the Air Force customer at the Hill Air Force Base office 

  • Participate in and provide technical guidance within the customer directed Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) 

  • Act as a technical focal point for the customer ensuring customer satisfaction including participation in NG, customer and government review boards 

  • Work on problem solving and failure investigations of design and repair issues 

  • Drive timely and clearly communicated decisions and recommendations 

  • Work closely with the Program Manager to manage technical execution of the solids programs 

  • Manage cost and schedule for the technical effort 

  • Work with Propulsion Systems functional management to assure proper technical support 

  • Drive technical excellence into the solids team (by upholding technical standards for project, managing technical risks, supporting cost goals, and ensuring requirements compliance) 

  • Provide other support for the MMIII Propulsion sustainment effort as requested by the Chief Engineer 

  • Occasional work at Promontory or Bacchus.  

  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science with 8 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 6 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 4 years of professional experience.    

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance 

  • 5+ yrs experience in solid rocket motor component design, analysis, manufacturing, project engineering, or systems engineering 

  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills, and ability to deal with ambiguity 

  • Excellent time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly present technical information at all organizational levels both internal and with Government customers
